Initiative on the SH Polar Vortex
The South polar stratosphere experienced an exceptional splitting of the vortex in September. This page gives access to various data related to that period.
- An animation showing the ozone field computed from GOMOS assimilted data can be found here (4.6 Mo). The file is in FLC format. A reader (231.3 ko) is freely available.

Here are images showing the location of GOMOS measurements over Antarctica during that period.
On each image are plotted the ozone column density as measured by TOMS and a set of points at the position of all the measurements performed in dark limb during the corresponding day.
NB: TOMS data have been downloaded from the TOMS web site. They are shown here as an indicator of the position and extent of the polar vortex.
